The Constant Hate of Teachers
May 7th 2008 22:27
After talking to many friends, students, and people around town I have come to a conclusion. First let me tell you the question that I have been asking everyone that I have talked to. Should students have the choice in who their teacher is? To me all along it has been a very easy decision and I can't figure out why something has happened with it.
I don't understand why students shouldn't be able to have input on who their teachers are! I believe that if you have to spend time with them and you have to learn from them that you should be able to choose the people who you like and get along with to help you. I know that I definitely wanted a new keyboarding teacher in eighth grade but I never did get a new teacher and my grades showed it. That's my living proof that my idea could help our society and help more children learn.
Students are people, we must remember, and I don’t think we are giving them that credit. If they are going to have to spend a whole year with their teacher; they should have the choice of who they are going to spend their time with!!

Basically it's a matter of practicality. You can't possibly plan and timetable everything so that students can switch through different classes at the drop of a hat.
Some systems do allow the students flexibility for limited choice.
Ultimately, this isn't so much a structual issue at higer levels, but a matter for how individual schools can and do manage various responsibilities and pressures.
