Best Movies of All Time
November 24th 2006 17:07
What are your fave movies? What made you love them more than the others? I love :
Pulp Fiction - Quentin Tarantino at his finest
Kill Bill Vol 1 - Quentin's back with a vengence.....(Vol 2 not quite as good!)
Star Wars - An exciting space adventure. Ground-breaking movie.
The Sound of Music -A classic...but, as a child, didn't understand why the Von Trapps were running from Nazis
Its a Wonderful Life - A truly heart-warming tale
Mean Girls -Excellent writing, very clever film
The Matrix - Now this is Science Fiction...or is it? Some believe we are in a virtual reaity matrix right now.
The Terminator I & II - "I'll be back" The original was great and the sequel even better. But, T3 just seemed like a 2 hour promo for the next installment.
The Wizard of Oz - Love it, a magical world
Raiders of the Lost Ark - I always dreamed of tagging along as Indiana Jones hunted for ancient treasures.
Blade Runner - Quintessential android Sci-Fi. What does it mean to be 'human'?
Funny, I didn't think of myself as a Sci-Fi fan, but a number of my picks are just that.
Agree with my choices? Disagree?
What is on your list?

Bladerunner
Apocalypse Now - Moody and dark. Disturbing but never depressing.
The Third Man - Graham Green has never been adapted so well.
Akira- If you see it you would know why.

Great list. Those are moving choices.
Wasn't it unsettling that an android was convinced they were human?

Thanks for list. Looks like you like Quentin Tarantino too.
I loved the South Park movie too, it was so funny!
Do you collect movies? I don't because I usually don't watch the same movie twice.
Cheers,
Pegasus

Where are you from? What is the best movie from your country?
Comment by Daressi
I'm from Serbia . We don't have some big movie industry but there are some good movies . As you can see I cannot pick just one movie
Underground (1995)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114787/
.......................................................................................
Maratonci trce pocasni krug (1982)
USA title: The Marathon Family
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084302/
........................................................................................
Mi nismo andjeli (1992)
English title:We Are Not Angels
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104860/
........................................................................................
Karaula (2006)
The Border Post (International: English title)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0466561/
.........................................................................................
There are more good movies , but at the moment I recall those 4 . First three are our classic movies , and typical for our cinematography are comedies or elements of comedy in every movie . Check out movies at imdb.com , maybe you decide to watch some ...

By the way : Maratonci trce pocasni krug ( The Marathon Family) took jury prize at Montreal movie festival in 1982.
And one more , South Park authors really make jokes with Canadians , and you still like them . Say Hello to Terence and Philip

Yes, South Park makes lots of jokes about Canadians...but I'm sure they are laughing 'with us' & not at us!! LOL.

The Matrix is one my faves also, though I got a bit bored by the monochromatic art direction.
I also adore:
Fight Club, Moulin Rouge, Adaptation, Frida, American Beauty, Jarhead, Lost In Translation, Mulholland Drive, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Girl, Interrupted, Donnie Darko and Keeping The Faith... basically any movie that asks you to re-evaluate the world!
I think Rat Race is great, I never get tired of watching it...

Have you seen "Dog Fight"? It starred the late River Phoenix as a young marine whose fellow marines are putting on a 'dog fight' contest. The contest is who can find the most repulsive looking date.
River's character sets out trying to find an 'ugly date' but can't get the time of day. Finally, he meets a young lady a bit on the heavy side, an average looking girl next door. He figures this is close enough & starts pursuing her. He spends time with her that night & takes her to the contest (she doesn't 'win'). He tells her he is shipping out the next morning & she agrees to spend the night with him.
Months later he returns from his tour of duty BUT he can't get this 'plain jane' out of his head & can't stop himself from looking for her. I'm sure the girl suspected something was fishy with his whole pursuit but the girl is so good-hearted that she looked past it all which is why he fell in love with her.
Yes, the premise of the contest was disgusting but the message of the film was moving. I've never forgotten this little movie.

There's no-one particularly famous in the film, but I would definitely recommend it. Here's the link to what I wrote if you feel like having a read...
