BEAUTY crowds me till I die,
Beauty, mercy have on me!
But if I expire today,
Let it be in sight of thee
By Emily Dickinson (1830–1886)
Excerpt from Bartleby.com: Great Books Online
I know this will sound funny, but I first heard this poem on the campy television series "The Facts of Life". Blair had severe writer's block when assigned to write a poem for class. She ended up plagerizing this one. Before she knew it, she was being heralded as the best new, original writer the school's ever seen. Of course, she had to fess up eventually.
Funny, how years later, I can still remember the lines word for word. How eloquently written it was & how meaningful and poignant each word was to me.
Kudos, Ms Dickinson.
