A Woman of Strength
December 8th 2006 02:57
Imagine the horror of coming home from your morning walk to find your four children shot to death at the hand of your ex-husband.
This senseless murder-suicide devasted Christine and nearly destroyed her. She seriously questioned if life were worth living without her four precious children. How could she go on? The pain seemed too much to bear.
Having set a day in her mind by which she would decide if the anguish was too great, she struggled, she contemplated, she prayed. When the day came, Christine knew she had to survive this tragedy. Suicide was not be the answer.
After profiling this strong person on her television show, Oprah received sixteen letters from women who were directly impacted by Christine's story. Each of these sixteen had been contemplating suicide themselves. One was even going to kill herself the very day Christine appeared on Oprah. All of the women were so touched and inspired by the mother's strength and perserverence that they abandoned their suicidal thoughts.
While such an unspeakable tragedy as the murder of your children is reprehensible, something inspirational and powerful can come out of it. Oprah herself predicted that good would come out of the children's ashes.
After meeting several of the letter writers, Christine had this to say:
"I want to tell all of you something, and anyone else who is listening. I didn't save you in that sense, but you found your own inner strength. It shows what tremendous, caring, loving people you are in all of your pain. To feel that my children made a place in your heart means so much to me."
