This year's Show showcases devices that stream multimedia to non-traditional computing products in the home and automobile.
"For years, we talked about converging products,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association. “What defines the 2007 International CES is that it is about the 'new convergence': the convergence of content, services and products.”
Bill Gates kicked off the conference with a keynote speech at the Venetian hotel. Gates exuberantly extolled the virtues of Microsoft's upcoming Vista Operating System and its ability to move multimedia from the PC to non-traditional computing mediums such as the living-room and kitchen.
Gates also revealed a new Windows Home Server born from the partnership between MS and giant Hewlett-Packard. The new Home Server is promised to come out in the first half of 2007 and will be able to detect any compatible PC or wireless-enabled device on the home network and stream content to any compatible device in the livingroom, kitchen, etc of the home. The system will back up all files twice daily, will have incredible storage capabilities (measured in terabytes, not gigabytes) and will be available from anywhere there is internet. In effect, you will be able to access all your files and home media such as video and music from any place you are.
New technology will also follow you into your car. Ford and MS will offer 'Synch' that will pipe cell phone calls through automobile speakers and can also read emails to you all while you are (hopefully) focusing on the road.
Other companies at the Show also unveiled similar products. Sony's new internet system will attach to the back of Sony Bravia TVs to access free High Def programming directly from the internet with no PC middleman.

Yes, I've been to San Francisco 3 or 4 times including 3 months right after I graduated Uni (I taught English to Japanese and Korean students in 'Japantown'), & around the San Fran area: Oakland, Monterey, Vacaville (lots of Outlet Malls), Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, Seattle and area, Vegas and area (including Hoover Dam & Grand Canyon).
Since I am in the Western part of Canada, it is easier (less traveling time) to go to Western U.S. but have been recently thinking I should try the Eastern part too. I'm thinking New York city and / or Florida.
How about you?
Nice to have you!
luv and hugs,
